Front office and service are terrible. eh. Been going here for more than 20 years, last week my dog was having seizures while foaming at the mouth. Called several times until someone finally answered, a young girl answered the phone, asked immediately if it was an "emergency", told her my dog was having seizures and foaming at her mouth, she put me on hold to talk to the doctor, about 3 minutes later she comes back on the line and tells me that I can bring her in and they would put her in a kennel until tomorrow when they could look at her. I told her that would not be alright as my dog seemed to be in critical condition, not eating, very agitated, for hours straight. She said very rudely "well if you aren't gonna bring her in so we can kennel her til tomorrow. We brought her to an emergency clinic and they stabilized her temporarily, that night she did not eat sleep or drink, she had another seizure the next morning and still was foaming at the mouth. She was in a 36 hour long episode of seizure symptoms, I was scared and nervous for my dog. The emergency place recommended us to the ANIC and we went there and they got her on medication. They asked us to take her to our regular bet for follow up on her tongue, she had bitten and bruised her tongue severely during her seizure activity. Some of her tongue even fell off. She had a high fever for days. The ANIC sent her records to sunrise for her follow up. The next day the ANIC calls and says that we are not a client to sunrise. Ridiculous, I called sunrise and again, had to leave a message, I wanted to talk to a manager. Finally hours later the manager calls, and I ask why they didn't accept the records from ANIC and why I'm not a client?!? He said the young girl that originally answered my call declared I was rude and hostile. I was neither, I was panicked and worried for my poor dog. During the conversation he never once asked me how my dog was doing. He explained to me that Abernathy personally requested that I'm no longer a client at sunrise, so be it. Talked to a friend of mine who also goes to sunrise, his dog was really sick a few months ago, they took the dog in to see Abernathy, he said the dog "should be fine". The poor dog died later that night. All in all, terrible service. Would not recommend to anyone who loves and cares for their animals, you'll just end up being "mean and hostile" and get kicked off their client list. They didn't even call to tell that I am no longer a client, I had to call, leave a message, then have a careless sarcastic manager tell me.

Dr. Abernathy is a five star Vet. He truly cares for all pets. He even treat exotics. As long as I live in Rio Rancho, Nm he is my vet. If you take your pets somewhere else, your cheating them out of the best Vet there is.

I've been going to Dr. Abernathy since the Mid 1990's. I have always recommended this place, and sent this place many referrals over the years. The management of the veterinary practice itself has gone "Downhill" over the last couple of years. Long waits, poor communication, uncaring front desk staff, and now customers are NOT able to speak directly to the staff when you call. I don't like seeing any business decline like this one, but this one has gone downhill. Also, Dr. Abernathy and/or his staff are now "firing" or "removing" clients from their database. You may say "that would never happen"? I've seen it happen first hand. Don't question anything with this vet or become emotional in the event of an emergency, or you risk being let go as a customer. Strange but true, and other reviews corroborate this situation. PS: In talking to a local vet tech here in town at a different Vet office, I was told that Sunrise has a reputation now for "firing" people, and that a lot of this other vets new customers are transfers from Sunrise after being "Let go" from Sunrise. Here were the reasons: Sunrise felt the customer got too emotional during a call, the customer went to a different vet while still having records at Sunrise(even if it was just for shots), or the customer asked too many questions about Dr. Abernathy's diagnosis. I was a loyal customer at one time, but obviously not anymore. I don't recommend Sunrise Vet any longer.

Removed previous review (I made on behalf of my dad per his request), because it was based on my dad's opinion of Sunrise, and not our opinion. We have always had great service and have been clients for over 15 years. Our pets have always been well taken care of.

It was our first time there, and we will never go back. The staff is cold and made me feel like a "number". I wasn't aware of the process and was not greeted by the girl pulling files or the staff going on and out of the front area. I waited 10 minutes before someone even acknowledged me. When I told him I had to put my pet down, he said, "OK sign in, and you'll be called". It was already a difficult decision, but it should've been handled completely different. It wasnt just routine shots or a check up and that's something that needs to be considered with each family.
